A traveling product powered by a combination of both human input and renewable energy, enabling users to travel for extended periods of time on any terrain, while have little to no environmental/carbon impact.

 

Off-Grid provides users all the necessary travel essentials such as a mode of transportation, shelter, cooking and storage in one hyper efficient package.

2 x 500 Watt Hub Motors

 

2 500 Watt hub motors provide more than enough power and efficiency to ride up hills and traverse any terrain.

Maximizing on energy efficiency, cost and weight.

Pedals: Human Power

The pedals provide human power input which accounts for 40% of the power necessary to move the vehicle.

The motor providing the other 50-60% of power.

350 Watt Solar Panel

On a sunny day functioning at max efficiency, the solar will actively charge the battery at the same rate it drains, thus maintain full charge.

Full recharge time from zero = 6 hours

2 kWh Li-ion Battery

Functioning on raw battery power with no solar assistance, the vehicle can travel 60-75 miles.

Bike Paths:

Legally Off-Grid is considered a bicycle/tricycle and therefore can be used on bike paths.

City Roads:

Legally Off-Grid can ride on the side of city roads, just as a cyclist would.

Country Roads:

Off-Grid performs best when riding on long un-crowded country roads.

Off-Road

Off-Grid is equipped with full suspension and all-terrain tires, allowing it to ride in almost any terrain.

Process

I wanted to deliver a conceptual product that explored the furthest push of human powered travel while residing in the current technological restraints of today. 

Therefore thorough front end research was completed to understand the possibilities and limitations which allowed me to 3D prototype in VR many configurations to achieve the realistic project goal.
